Meiosis: Advanced Look

Meiosis involves two distinct cell division events called Meiosis I and Meiosis II. In order to accommodate the larger number of stills contained in Advanced Look, the selected images have been grouped into pages that correspond with these two phases.

To see the Flash movie for the following sequences of images, click here.

During Meiosis I homologous chromosomes undergo crossing over and are divided into two daughter cells.

During Meiosis II the diploid daughter cells from Meiosis I are each divided into two haploid cells known as gametes.
